On a cold, blustery day in May, the Miranda Foundation hosted ‘Australia’s Biggest Playdate’, in support of Monash Children’s Hospital. This was the second playdate of its kind, with a focus on raising funds and awareness of the integral work the hospital does for our community. Vanessa Miranda’s passion for making a difference at Monash Children’s Hospital follows her daughter Taylah’s diagnosis and journey with leukaemia. The playdate and the work of the Miranda Foundation continues to be an expression of Vanessa’s gratitude.
Our event was a hit; even the rain didn’t deter the crowds, with over 300 people attending! The afternoon featured a wonderland of activities including rides, games, mini golf, balloons, face painting, farm animals and delicious food. A range of superheroes, princesses and Star Wars characters were the highlight of the day, delighting children and adults alike and providing endless photo opportunities! Fox FM’s Hit Squad also broadcast live from the event, playing music all afternoon and bringing along their giant jenga, for some building fun!
Last year’s playdate funded a new research program called All Aboard, which aims to develop technology to allow cancer patients to receive high dose methotrexate treatment at home, instead of remaining in hospital for around seven days. This program provides immeasurable support to the mental health of patients and their families, to assist in the recovery process.
This year, our Playdate raised an amazing $30,433, which again will make an incredible difference to the lives of patients and continue to assist Monash Children’s Hospital in the life changing work they do. Taylah and her doctors have decided that this year’s funds will continue to support the All Aboard program, to maintain their focus on improving the treatment and ongoing care of sick children.
We are so humbled and grateful for the generous contributions of time, donations and products to our fundraiser. The success of the event was a result of the hard work, dedication and enthusiasm of our volunteers. The generosity of our sponsors and those who donated products in support of the day were a true representation of the fundraiser’s motto of being ‘IN IT TOGETHER.’
